Although we are not currently running any regular group classes at the Body Mind Alexander Technique Centre there are often groups running at the School for F.M. Alexander Studies in North Fitzroy. Use this link to see what courses are available. However, if you have a group of friends or colleagues who would like to organise some group classes in Alexander technique at the Bourke Street centre then give us a call on 03 9642 1122 and see if we can organise a time and a structure that is convenient to your group. Learning to apply Alexander technique with friends and colleagues provides a great opportunity to help one another outside of classes to make positive, life-long changes. How do group classes work?Alexander technique works by teaching people to recognize their habitual patterns of tension, movement and thought and to restore the natural poise and balance of the body by focusing in particular on the relationship between the head and the spine. What’s involved in a class?Groups first learn the basics of the Alexander technique and how to apply new thoughts and movements to everyday activities. Alexander technique teachers use both verbal direction and gentle manual guidance to encourage changes in these functional movements. Active participation is encouraged and classes are easily tailored to meet individual needs and interests. The benefit of group classes is that you can learn by watching others as they apply the technique. Specialised groupsIf your group of friends or colleagues have a particular activity that you would like to apply the technique to - a sport perhaps such as cycling or dance for example - then give us a call on 03 9642 1122 and arrange a group class at a time that is convenient for you. Corporate visitsYou also have the option of a teacher coming to visit your workplace. We can offer anything from a short introductory talk to longer practical sessions. We are able to send out to you our detailed corporate package. Call on 03 9642 1122 or contact us for more information.
