What is the Alexander Technique?

Our human bodies are marvels of engineering complexity and elegant design.  When working properly they function in a balanced and effortless way.  We see this most easily in young children.  Over time, most of us lose this natural balance and ease to a greater or lesser degree. Many of us start to live with tension and bracing through our bodies below our level of awareness.  We only start to notice when things go amiss.  We may notice back pain or joint and muscle discomfort, we may experience injuries in activities where we had none before, or when taking up new activities. 

The Alexander Technique is not a series of treatments or exercises, but rather a process of learning how to use our bodies as they were designed to be used. It is a simple and practical method for developing more ease and freedom in walking and improving balance, support and coordination in all our activities.  It is the key to peak performance in our sporting activities, singing or playing an instrument, or acting
